Default [OOC] Age of Heroes

This game is not open to new players at this time.
A dark sword and sorcery game set on a bronze-age alternate Earth. Thematically it is a mashup of FFH2, Dwarf Fortress, and others.

I. Age of Ice

In the beginning there was ice… unrelenting, crushing, and cold. Immortal beasts scoured the frozen lands for their mortal prey-stock. Entire species, fantastic and mundane, disappeared frequently.

The Calabrim, cursed blood-drinkers without age, herded humanoids from frozen oasis to oasis , to keep their food supply maintained.

The Titans, divinely manifested giants from another world, were driven to mad plots and actions to control the few available places that produced agriculture.

The Dragons, great elemental serpents without remorse or understanding of the humanoid condition, hunted all creatures, mortals and immortals alike.

II. Age of Tyrants

But eventually, Spring did come. The ice receded, and nurturing plains and forests took its place. The dwarves, hidden from the worst of the winter below the earth, emerged from their sactuary. The alfar and other fey began to appear more frequently in the world’s forests.

And the chaos of predation gave way to the order of tyranny.

The immortals of the world worked ceaselessly to consolidate control of the promising future. They built empires on slave labor and fear. Only the dwarves, empowered by their god Kilmorph with the mastery of metals, resisted the efforts of the immortals.

The dwarves expanded their influence whenever opportunity presented itself; first with iron, and then with steel.

III. Age of Heroes

The current age is agreed to have started with the battle between the dwarven hero Urist Khoshlarim and the dragon Ashardalon. The ancient wyrm was slain with an axe to his heart, and at that point, the tides of immortal dominance waned.

The many mortal tribes flourish; many are self-determined, but it is still a dangerous time. City-states have risen to dominate political life, with the Khazad Confederacy at the top.

Yrth is still wild though; mortal governing institutions rarely extend their influence outside the city walls. It is but the adventurous few heroes of the world that freely roam the world, slowly eroding the monstrous influence of immortal tyrants.
