Default Raid on Frederikshavn Playtest 1

We did a first trial run of my "Raid on Frederikshavn" scenario this weekend. I posted a play report and some after-action thoughts on my blog, here:

Enjoy!

read it, sounds like a solid play-through. As for the shuttle, I would make the boosters on that thing equivalant to cruise missiles in terms of explosive power, centered on the model's location when shot (always 1-1 odds, like Ogre treads), making it a serious priority for the invader to score a hit.

I love you, man. That's a great idea.

My main concern against the cruise missile explosion is fairly simple.

Why?

Sure, it's cool, it's evocative, but changes nothing. If the rocket is destroyed, the attackers already win anyway. If it's not hit, the explosion won't occur. It feels like the whole thing isn't worth including except as a way to roll more dice and blow units up after the game has already been resolved.

Sure, it makes for a cool mental visual, but as I said, what place does it have in a con game when the explosion accomplishes nothing for/against victory resolution?

Umm... hello!? Like you need something more?

In a more serious vein, it could have definite significance if victory points are awarded for attackers who exit the game board. Assuming that there's not a "shuttle kill equals victory" condition.

Which is rather what I assumed was the case after the first test. To include detail of this fashion does rather depend on the shuttle being a non-binary victory condition though. If you have the rocket as (merely) a relatively rich haul of VPs compared to other buildings then, definitely, it'll contribute (potentially) more by exploding and taking out the things around it. But doing so will change the feel and the potential for victory/defeat in the scenario.

Or, even better: If the rockets take a hit, they launch and impact one to two d6 inches in a random direction (all 3 rockets each in a random direction each). This could end up real messy for everyone.
