Surely, a card in one's hand is always a card for purposes that require a discard.
If a ship enhancer is not yet bonded to a ship, it may indeed be discarded for any reason that comes to hand, no?

Yes, cards in your hand are just cards and always qualify for discard abilities. I was specifically referring to discarding an already attached Ship Enhancer.
