Re: Gaming Ballistic - GURPS Content Posts
The cinematic post has been an eye-opener for me.
I threw it up there at about 10:30pm. On a good day, I'll average about 30 Blogger page views per hour. That eventually hits about 750 views for a day. Anything north of that means a lot of people are checking out my stuff. the DnD posts, as an example, hit about 45 per hour, for something iike 1,100 views in a day. So in the last 13 hours, I've averaged over 48 views per hour, nearly all of them seem to be in response to the "cinematic is good" post. If this continues, it will be one of my most active days ever. So for every person (including me) that wants to write more and more rules to keep things manageable and realistic . . . the market is flipping us the bird.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - GURPS Content Posts
I am curious about cinematic armor awesomeness to go with Cinematic Weapon awesomeness, it is an area that seems often sadly neglected. By spending a bunch of points on Weapon Master, Heroic Archer, and a lot of Striking ST (Bows) an archer can most happily start cracking clean through enchanted plate to tenderize the squishy insides (and with less points, the cinematic meleeist can do the same, since Sw weapons are better than Thr weapons at armor cracking). Mundane non cinematically awesome non high point value people find their foe wearing heavy enchanted plate and such a major handicap to their damage output. So, it would seem, the suitably cinematically buffed up armor specialist could be the same.
I wonder if theres a way to have an advantage 'Not effected by Weapon Master while I am wearing heavy armor?' I suppose 'DR, only vs WM bonus damage, only while wearing DR 9+ armor on hit locations said armor specifically covers' would be something The swords vs trauma plates idea by RAW seems to really call for something out of Enhancements to add armor divisor . . . otherwise a brawny ST 21 weapon master swinging a Very Fine broadsword will do around exactly the 24 damage that a trauma plate can handle, and then the carrier will handle the rest! Of course, trauma plates also stand up commendably to the 21.5 damage or so meted out by a Mosin-Nagant and friends . . . so, you need either AP ammo and deal pi- papercuts, land tons of hits (potentially enhanced by using the semi ablative trauma plates rules), use heavier weapons (the RPG-7 fears no trauma plates . . . . or our ST 21 guy can wield a M2HB as a personal weapon, always fun!), or not aim at the trauma plates Then again, Tech Level plays a large role in it . . . . I remember the horrible disappointment I found when my character in a TL 3+2 campaign finally A - got her ST up to 26, and B - finally got a gatling gun I realized that the very heavy, malfunction prone, 4d+1 pi+ wallop gatling gun was a situational use item that at many a time was worse than using a sword as a ST 26 weapon master, no matter how longingly the player wanted the character to use the gatling gun |

I guess it might be the fault of the reality = no fun allowed meme that sadly a lot of people believe (and is the image sadly all too often given those who want to play "hard" games but mistake realism for no one is allowed to be amazing).

I almost threw in a "this is all Peter's fault" line into the post, but I knew you'd get it anyway.
