Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spoilerrific)
Electric cars too, lead-acid batteries and wind generators are 19th century tech.

None of these things are true for an electric car, so I vote them off the island :) Granted, you can do all the above to Petrol too, but as Diesel IS easier to make from plants, distill from whatever oil rigs still work, etc, it makes some sense. And you CAN burn petrol in a diesel. It wont be chrome or shiny (you'll go super slow...), but you could do it.

A Tesla Roadster does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, and the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds. Electrics can be hot.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spoilerrific)
Mad Max defending a solar farm powering electric cars would give quite a different feel. ;)

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spoilerrific)
And part of the point about cars in Mad Max is that they're loud and awesome. Also, don't electric cars have a lot of fragile electronics?

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spoilerrific)
I don't think those are required for basic operation. They're just added as, right now, they're niche items, and those tend to get all the bells and whistles.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spoilerrific)
Electric trains have service lives in excess of 50 years with minimal maintenance, fragile they are not. And they do date to the 19th century, nothing electronic required. They don't need traction control or regenerative braking.
The electric problems are short range and lengthy recharge. Both go away if you operate with in range of a base. |

I can not _believe_ a thread on playing Mad Max in GURPS is degenerating into a defense of electric cars... This isnt about _generic_ apocalypse. This is a specific setting. If it doesnt shoot fire and roar like a lion, it dont belong!

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spoilerrific)
I mostly agree, but I think a modern-satire electric car subculture with war-Smartcars tricked-out with high suspensions and fat tires for the desert who act like ninjas because they're so quiet would be pretty funny.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Spoilerrific)
Mad Max has always had environmentalism as a theme. The "good guys" are always the ones looking for a green place and using alternative technologies. Max always recognizes that he is one of the "bad guys".
