Speaking of which, how often do you guys award Hero Points/Success Points/Victory Points/Heroic Mettle Points/etc?

I base it partly on how many the players already have. It's not like character points where there needs to be a progression. I don't want the characters to have a stock of 10 HMPs that they can use to totally overrun a session. So I keep in mind what they have. And then just wait for those moments where they come up with that really good idea, or pull of something especially impressive.

A set number at the start of every meeting.

Character points depend on good roleplaying (etc.), but I give out the same amount of Fate Points regardless.

Or Hero Points. I use something familiar to this as well.

I find that if you let players use CPs to affect the action, sometimes they are stingy with doing so, since they also want to 'advance' their character.

It's at my whim. I hand them out for good roleplaying, great jokes, flamboyant heroism. Sometimes, if someone uses their points to do something exceptionally self-sacrificing, the Gods see fit to hand them all back.

The short answer is: As many per session as I expect them to spend.

The cost of doing things are set accordingly. If I want players to be able to tweak one roll a game, I would hand out 2 Hero points, and then charge 2 hero points to convert a Crit Failure into a Success.

If I expected each player to do so 3x per session, I would hand out 6 points, and charge the same 2 points. And so on.

I got around this issue by giving a number of Temporary CPs for these purposes—use 'em or lose 'em. Worked well enough.

If you mean in the way Austin Powers uses it, it seems like an application of Kayo. :)
