Pyramid #3/80: Fantasy Threats
Fantasy is about many things, foremost among which is confronting threats – to oneself, to one's home, to one's way of life. Confronting perils, be they physical or more abstract, perhaps even from within, is the defining act of the fantasy hero. Of course, in a roleplaying game, the GM has to come up with these challenges, and it isn't easy to invent dangers to test a diverse group PCs without blasting some of them out of existence while boring the rest. A little help is always welcome.Ordinary folk That's the goal of Pyramid #3/80: Fantasy Threats. It offers a range of menaces suited to many different flavor of fantasy, from the hack 'n' slash variety to the more thoughtful kind. They may or may not suit your campaign as written, but all are colorful and original enough to inspire. Think of what you could do with the following:

I'm so glad that On the Bounty Board made the cut! I really hope I can provide more articles in the future. :)

So that you know, On the Bounty Board and The Knights of the Iron Table seemed very interesting to me, so I bought the issue based on the premise of those two articles alone.

You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that. A lot relies on Social Engineering for rules-specifics (I, for one, HIGHLY recommend looking into The Mind of the Mob in certain circumstances depending on how the public views the party), but I personally feel that it is a great overview on the circumstances and serves as a guide for the GM to implement it and can be used for any system in general if you ignore the few crunchy bits that are in it.

I had a crude and vaguely similar idea a while back, which I then completely forgot to refine and throw at my group. I don't think they'll be very grateful for you reminding me of it - and making it a lot more interesting. Guess it goes to show that offering power-ups linked to body horror is an eternal source of something. The self-destruction of adventurers, perhaps. Last edited by Antumbra; 07-12-2015 at 11:46 AM. |
