Anti-tank weapons
I’ve been pondering the best ways to deal with adversaries with ridiculous amounts of armor and effectively no DX. The most straightforward options are magical, and there are plenty: a Rope spell will render them helpless (immediately or at least very quickly), at which point they can be killed automatically if one takes a full turn (ITL page 126); Drop Weapon on their shield; Sleep; Slippery Floor, etc. Non-magical options seem more limited.
1. Shield rush (ITL page 112) at least takes them briefly out of commission briefly, but inflicts no damage. 2. Aimed shots (ITL, page 120) with certain weapons are a possibility: a successful head shot at DX-6 with a dagger, throwing star or whip bypasses all armor “(the weapon went in through the face guard)” and inflicts double damage. What other approaches do people use? |

Re: Anti-tank weapons
Nets are pretty effective against low DX characters. And, even with a ton of armor, a battleaxe, two-handed sword, or heavy crossbow are nothing to dismiss casually.

Re: Anti-tank weapons
How about engaging them with another tank? Even if your guy isn't armored as heavily, he can still defend every turn. Once the other adversaries are dealt with, you can take him down in group HTH.

Re: Anti-tank weapons
Sometimes you can avoid tanks altogether due to their low MA.

Re: Anti-tank weapons
Anything that challenges their DX and has unpleasant consequences: fast moving streams (drowning), heavy falling objects (crushing), chasms and pit traps (impalement, drowning, death from a long fall), climbing ropes, walls or trees (to escape something really nasty like a very large Giant or Dragon).
Limitless opportunities to harm the clumsy. |

Re: Anti-tank weapons
I find anti-tank weapons are overkill in most games of TFT. They have their place against dragons and other large multi-hex creatures, I suppose, but generally speaking, anti-personnel weapons seem sufficient.

Re: Anti-tank weapons
Next time you need a tank, try summoning an Ogre.
