Re: [IW] Still Militarized Japan in the 21st Century
I think that a stalemate in the ETO of WWII that led the US to divert even more resources away from the PTO could lead to an armistice with Japan. For that matter, letting Patton take on the Soviets after the fall of Berlin would trigger the logistical need.

Could lead to a cold war between the American and Japanese empires... The Soviet Union would end up like East/West Germany in our world?

Re: [IW] Still Militarized Japan in the 21st Century
Depends on how successful the Western Allies are against the Soviets. It's likely that the best they could achieve would be to push the Soviets out of (RL) East Germany. Maybe liberate Poland, as a stretch. Given the timelines involved, there would of course be no Soviet Declaration of War against Japan. So, probably a tripartite Cold War.

Re: [IW] Still Militarized Japan in the 21st Century
That would depend on how much the US expends itself against Russia, and how much of China Japan could control. I agree though that a three-way cold war is a bit more believable. Also, Russia would be pretty ticked about losing Poland, so the only thing keeping them from attacking would be fears of being backstabbed by the Japanese Empire on their other front. It would be a very angry, brittle peace I would think.
