Combination 11a: The Road to Tenby
11) GURPS Reign of Steel: Read the Sky and GURPS Action 6: Tricked-Out Rides

In a barren post-apocolyptic wasteland, transportation is everything. The essentials of life are few and far between. There are a few stable communities, but its important that these keep in contact with each other.

now Tenby has stopped communicating. Its your job to find out why.

I'm sure there is a post-apoc setting where this concept works great. It may even be auto-duel. I just don't know autoduel. or mad max, which from what I hear is another great fit for this combo. Any thoughts or help on this one?

Autoduel works well. The world is hazardous and fragmented enough for it to make sense that a well-armed team would be sent in to check out a fortress town, but coming back together enough for someone to try to put a large communication grid together. Might need to move off the beaten path a little.

Thanks! I thought it might fit the bill. Its a weird combination to get right. Read the Sky is giving a lot of trouble in general. On the one hand, it fits into low-tech settings just fine:

Combination 12a: Villagers and Bandits
12) GURPS Reign of Steel: Read the Sky and GURPS Hot Spots: The Incense Trail

As the Caravan passes through a settlement, someone notices that the locals have no children with them ... something is up.

But on the other, RPM seems to reliably short circuit the adventure, as does radio communication and stable governments.

Combination 14a: The Broken Mirror of Tenby
14) GURPS Reign of Steel: Read the Sky and How to Be a GURPS GM: Ritual Path Magic

This is not a civilized land. Mystical predators roam the countryside in search of meat. Vicious undead and abandoned enchantments haunt the old ruins. Wild and forgotten spells drift through the land, waylaying and leading astray the unwary. Bandits prey upon travelers, confident that any disappearances can be blamed on more inhuman Monsters. But within a village is a measure of safety. Most of the time.

The local council of magi have given each of the surrounding communities mirrors of communication, letting them talk to one another in times of trouble. Most large threats give the local authorities time to band together, and the Mages time to research a solution. This time, Tenby has just dropped off of the map. The mirror cannot be reached, and the blokes went to check out why have not returned. This time, a full team, including a mage, is being sent to find out what happened at Tenby

Combination 15a: Clockwork Tenby
15) GURPS Reign of Steel: Read the Sky and GURPS Steampunk Setting: The Broken Clockwork World

Its been hard since the world broke. Mass starvation has been avoided, but small outlying towns are now dealing with very different masters, most of whom have unfamiliar languages and gods. Or had unfamiliar*gods at least.*
Contact has been lost with Tenby. Its unknown if this is due to Tenby moving on in this fractured landscape, but the indications are otherwise: the simple messenger sent out to check on them hasn't returned, and it would be odd for them to be whisked away so soon after the village itself.* A party must be sent out to see what is going on...

Combination 15b: The Measure of a Robot
15) GURPS Reign of Steel: Read the Sky and GURPS Steampunk Setting: The Broken Clockwork World

This starts out as a simple run through of Watch the Sky, but as a twist, the Pirates are from the broken clockwork world. The evidence of other-worldly technology will start showing up in Tenby. If the players dig a bit, they can reveal the presence of "robots" among the enemy combatants. Their response should be fun to watch, depending on the setup of the game and the inclinations of the players... and on just how much the GM can twist the descriptions to confuse the players.*

Combination 33: Where Do They Get All Those Toys From?
Tomorrow Rides and The Broken Clockwork World
The agencies never considered Tomorrow Rides a problem. They had a few secrets it might have been interesting to crack, and they were a bit of a wild card, but they were useful sometimes, their goals seemed clear and not usually objectionable, and they weren't working with any major hostile factions.

But the latest technical assessment of their most recent round of offerings raised some flags. There were some mechanical developments in there that had the geeks and mechanics scratching their heads. The report went up the ladder a couple of rungs, then came over to the new office. And our geeks are pretty clear; that looks like Broken tech, adapted and stabilised for local condictions.

So Tomorrow Rides must have access to one or more adequately stable portals - and they're keeping this stuff to themselves. That's short-sighted of them; dangerously short-sighted. Somebody is going to have to infiltrate, assess, and if necessary shut things down.

Combination 26: A Contract on the Gods
GURPS Action 7: Mercenaries and GURPS Steampunk Setting: The Broken Clockwork World
The Principle is a decent employer. No dirty missions (well, not without fair warning), pays on schedule, polite. Seems to be some kind of billionaire with broad interests. But this new contract looked like a joke at first. Gates to another world, all over this one? Steam-powered robots? No advanced electronics?

But no sensible soldier denies the evidence of their own eyes, and the missions were manageable, weirdness notwithstanding. Mostly escorting scientists and diplomats in and out; even some rescue missions and disaster relief, which isn't quite our thing but does help a grunt with a conscience sleep at night. Until now. It seems that the Principle's people have finished analysing the info that they'd got back, and they may have some idea what happened over there. It may even be fixable. But fixing it may mean going up against something that can kill gods...

Combination 17a: The Desert Moon
17) GURPS Monster Hunters Encounters 1 and GURPS Hot Spots: The Incense Trail.
The conflict between the city and the countryside is an ancient one. Long ago, in the deserts of Arabia, a clan of monsters plots its vengeance against the settled folk. Long lean desert wolves roam the mountains at night, protecting the precious incense-bearing trees. The patriarch of the clan is bent on freeing an ancient moon deity, and he makes liberal use of sacrifice to do so.

Surprisingly little changes when bringing this adventure back in time. The Monstrous transformation, the isolated clan, the mad magician, and human sacrifice are all timeless elements rooted in history. Arabia even has its own breed of wolves. The biggest changes are to the hunters, who lose their guns and several useful template options.

What the heck. I'll give it a go.

Combination 29a: GURPS Top Gear Mythbusters!
29) GURPS Boardroom and Curia: Tomorrow Rides and GURPS Action 6: Tricked-Out Rides

Your group of auto aficionados has been hired under that table by Tomorrow Rides’s new Marketing and Sales Division. The company plans on introducing some of their more mundane innovations to the general public. Your team is the channel they’ve chosen to use. You get access to bleeding edge auto equipment and test it against the company’s documented claims of its performance. Your reports will in turn become the marketing and sales literature Tomorrow Rides releases to the public.

Combination 18a: The measure of a moon.
18) GURPS Monster Hunters Encounters 1 and GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Adventure 3: Deep Night and the Star

The only things stranger than cultists are the bizarre entities they bring into the world.Father Moon speaks of the moon frequently, but it seems his focus has been drawn to a different cold astronomical object. Perhaps this object is the offspring of the moon, or a container for its spirit. This cold body certainly has great power, and father moon has activated at least some of it.

Perhaps this year is the great year when Atoep awakes and begins to harvest the world. Perhaps the portal to access it is opened for the yearly sacrifice. Perhaps the PC's only find dark rumors of the entity in father moon's notes.

Or perhaps Atoep will eat the world.
