Default Shotgun Damage for 20g or 4/10

So, in order to implement 20 Gauge and 4/10 shotguns, I was thinking the damage should stay the same (because the buckshot is the same size), but the shot quantity would go down.

So, since a 12G pump is Dam: 1d+1 pi- and ROF: 2x9, then a 20G pump would be Dam: 1d+1 pi- with ROF: 2x6 and a 4/10 pump would be Dam: 1d+1 pi- with ROF: 2x3.

Does that seem reasonable?

Also, I have a player that wants to use a Taurus Judge. This is a 5 shot revolver that uses 4/10 shells. It seems to me that it would behave like a regular 4/10 shotgun (assuming buckshot), but have reduced range, so I thought I would reduce the range from 50/125 to 25/70. Also, although it is a revolver, I think the ROF should be a little slower because of the kick it would have, so I was going to give it an ROF of 2.

Does that sound reasonable?

You can probably find how many buckshot pellets are in either a 20G or a .410 shotshell online and get it exactly.

For the RoF of a revolver, it probably doesn't have that much more kick than some of the megapistols out there like the S&W .500. "More kick" is likely to translate (mildly) into "Higher Rcl" before "you can't pull the trigger that many times."

Google search results:

2.5" .410 shells have three 000 buckshot pellets.
3" .410 shells have five 000 buckshot pellets.
3" 12 Gauge shells have ten 000 buckshot pellets.

I can't find any 000 loads for 20 gauge.

I think High-Tech has some tables for multishot loads that you could use to get the needed stats for the revolver. There are also direct stats for a 20-gauge shotgun as well, if memory serves.

Thanks!

I hadn't picked up High Tech for 4th Edition yet. I have now. Just ordered PDF and Hard Copy.

A note to the OP: 'gurps shotgun damage' is not a good tag to use. I've added 'high-tech' and 'shotgun' for clarity.

Heh... I meant for that to be three separate tags. Sorry.

Use a comma. That'll fix it. You can also delete old tags by clearing their checkbox.

So, based on the High-Tech stats for a 20G, it looks like the stats for the .410 should be something like:

Dam: 1d pi
ROF: 3x4

IIRC, there are examples of both in Pulp Guns 1.
