Default Duration for Advantages

I was wondering if I'm just missing something or if this covers all Advantages as it seems a bit out of whack.

Characters page 101,

Quote:
Range, Area, and Duration for Advantages
When applying modifiers, you occasionally need to know the range, area of effect, or duration of an advantage for which one or more of these quantities is not specified – for instance, when applying an enhancement that gives a range to an ability that normally has none. Assume that range is 100 yards, area is a circle 2 yards in radius (and 12’ high, should volume matter), and duration is 10 seconds, unless the advantage specifies otherwise. Exceptions will be noted.
What exactly does this 10 second rule apply to? Stuff like Flight, Enhanced Move, Scanning Sense, etc??



So I'm a little confused... Can anyone point me in the right direction?

it only applies to such advantages if you on modifiers where duration matter on it. otherwise this is no 10 second limitation on it.

Could you clarify a little more? I understand that it applies to some advantages but where does it state which and maybe a page reference so I can share with my gaming group?

If you want to apply a range/area/duration/whatever-related enhancement to a trait which doesn't normally have a range/area/duration/whatever, use the range/area/duration listed there. However, the traits to which the rule might potentially apply aren't explicitly listed. The rule is there for when you stumble over an odd case.

Flight was a good example. using it as is there is no Time limit.

If Cost Fatigue Did not specified it's own duration (1 minute) then you would fall back to that 'default' 1 second' between Fatigue maintenance when you added it to Flight.

Now of the top of me head I can not think which modifier would actually call for this.

I think Uncontrollable might be the only enhancement or limitation in Basic you might need a duration for that doesn't specify one. I suppose it might apply if you did something like stretch Cyclic to advantages (each cycle it activates for the default duration). It's just there to catch the undefined cases.
