Epic Orc vs LVL 1

Ok so we were playing the other night and i was an orc, I was already level 16 so i was epic. An epic orcs ability allows him to eat a level 1 creature and no one can play anything to stop this.

So i drew my two face up door cards one was a level 1 Goldfish I believe the other was a level 18 Ninja Giant. We talked it out that seeing an epic orc eats the level one that i immediately eat it and go up a level. The level didnt really make a difference at that point so we just gave it to me.

Realistically i dont think i can claim the level till after the battle. If i eat the level 1 do i collects its treasures? Was everything else done properly?

In Munchkin, the rewards are gained only if the whole combat is resolved. So, in that case, the level 1 monster was killed by the orc, so he is removed from combat. But you only get other rewards (level and treasures) if you defeat the level 18 monster. In that case, you would win levels + treasures from both monsters. If you can't, you have to Run Away only from the level 18 monster, because the level 1 monster was killed.

Thanks this is what we figued we just wanted to make sure everything was done correctly. Also we were not talking about some one wandering in a monster in epic you draw two face up doors so that how there was two monsters in the battle.
