Default Doppelganger + Potions

Hello everyone, today we had a big argument with my friends with about using card Doppelganger and some potions after it.
There are 2 questions:
1) My friend had 9 level and got quite simple creature from her door. So, we have started to make it stronger, but she has used a Doppelganger card. After that I have used a Friendship Potion for a creature to thwart to get a level. And that we had an argument because Doppelganger card forbids to get any help from other people. Would it a Friendship Potion regarded as a help in this context?
2) In the rules I have read next information: if you accept help from anyone, you have to discard your Doppelganger. Would it be a hack if someone used any gains for player who used a Doppelganger to discard this card?

"Helping" for the purpose of Doppleganger means having a second player actually join in the combat. Playing cards doesn't constitute "helping" for this purpose.
