Default The most munchkinly win!

I was witness to the most munchkinly win I've ever seen in MQ last night and have to share with folks...

The Set Up - It was a 5 player game, I was observing as MIB during a demo night. They'd started the game late because they'd first played 2 games of Nanuk, so I doubted there would be time to finish a full game of MQ. We were also using the 'Only discover 1 room on your first turn and 2 on the second turn' rule, so starting the 4th turn of the game, there still weren't a lot of rooms out, and there were 5 monsters lurking around that hadn't been beaten. Everyone else had left the game store, and the owner was just waiting on us to leave so he could close up. Given that the highest level player was only 5th level, I was just about to suggest that everyone plan on taking one more turn, so that everyone had an even number of turns, and I'd declare the highest level the winner.

Part 1 - Monster movement had carried the Ancient Undead Horse (level 18) into the room with the player who's turn was just starting. At level 3 he would have a tough time beating it except for the Gigantism Curse that gave him +8 and his few other items plus a one shot potion gave him just enough to beat it. Nobody interfered so he gained a level (to 4) and a few treasures. This took him to an effective level of 16 in combat marked on his Munchkin Kill-O-Meter for all to see.

Part 2 - He then used his entire movement (all 3 steps) to charge into a room with 3 buffed monsters that Monster movement had clustered together. I can't recall what they were, but there were 5 enhancers on the 3 monsters. With a combined total of 48 levels we all thought he was crazy... until he pulled out the card Reversal of Fortune that let his 16 turn into 61 !!! He was laughing until the dice were rolled, his '1' gave him a 62 and their combined 10 gave them only 58. Then he started sweating for a second when someone played re-loaded die on a '1' that one of the monsters rolled...
The re-roll was a '4' giving them... 61. He'd won that combat with nothing to spare but he did win it and gained 4 levels and 11 treasures out of the mix! He was now level 8.

Part 3 - Selling stuff gave him an easy level 9 but he had no more movement... except for a potion that let him move along the arrows like a monster...

Part 4 - Picking an arrow that led him to the remaining other monster in the dungeon, he was soon in yet another fight which he won easily given all the loot he'd gotten before. He's now at level 10 and still out of movement... except the treasures from this kill gave him yet another potion that let him move as a monster and slippers that gave him one extra move token!

Part 5 - Picking an arrow that led him next to the entrance and using his new move token to cover the remaining distance, he now faced the Boss Monster. By now the other players were in a state of shock and awe (plus they'd already used all their buffs in the previous fights) and with all his bonuses and one shots he could play there was no contest in the final combat. Nothing could be done to stop the juggernaut he'd become, no die roll of any kind could keep him from winning.

And that's the story of how you can go from level 3 to the win in One. Single. Turn.

So... anyone out there got a story to top that?

I talked to one of the players last night and need to make a correction to that story...

It wasn't the start of the 4th turn, it was the start of the 3rd turn! The other players had only gotten 2 turns in each!

Well, I asked if anyone could top my OP, and I've got a taker for the spot... The same guy who pulled it off two weeks ago did it again last night!

He won the game -again- on the third turn -again- but this time he did it after dying on the second turn! He charged into a group of 3 monsters -again- using the Reversal of Fortune card -again- to totally dominate the combat turning his measly 08 into an 80! The 4 levels he gained brought him to level 9. He then used his last movement point to search the room and naturally rolled a 1. Easy kill to level 10. A combination of motion potion and some item that gave him one more movement point allowed him to reach the exit and another durn Reversal of Fortune card gave him the win.

There's only 3 RoF cards in the deck and in two games in a row he's been the only player to pull one... and he pulled two this time! I'm going to start another thread asking if any other players think that card is too powerful because my players are asking to have it removed!

You haven't read the RoF rules closely, then. The RoF cards do not go in the regular deck; the player who supplies the KOM gets to put the RoF into play in addition to his regular card allotment. When played, it gets set aside, not put into the regular discards, and the only way to retrieve it is to use a discard-resurrecting ability.

Also, one RoF can cancel another.

?!?!? Clearly I missed some rules somewhere. ?!?!?

I've got the card in front of me and that's not on there, so I'm suspecting it was on the outside of the package that the KOM came in... which I've tossed and don't have anymore... all 6 packs...

The ROF card looks like a regular treasure card. I was under the impression (mistakenly I presume) that cards that were to be separate from the regular cards would have PROMO on them like Trade Character Sheets does.

... Not that I'm doubting you Andrew. I'm just dumbfounded at my idiocy at not having noticed that rule. Clearly I was foolish in my haste to rip open the KOM packages and get to the goodies inside...

Knowing that one can cancel another makes a difference, as does knowing that each player has to get their own KOM to get the card. This will cause a spike in sales of the KOM as every player has to buy their own to use for themself to try for an easy win or as defense against their opponents using one.

Does this mean that like other PROMO cards that each player can have and use only one per game? (or is that part of the rules I missed?)

Yes, the rules for using the KOM and the RoF were on the inside of the header card.

Inside!!! No wonder I missed it. I cut the plastic open to remove the contents but never realized the header opened up. Whoops! Any chance you can PM me what it says inside?

Pretty much what I already said. I'll see if we can post a PDF of the insert (but no promises about time; we're pretty swamped).

I'm curious as to why this was chosen. Is there a game reason why ROF shouldn't be mixed in, or was this just done to reward the player who spent the money on the KOM?

Personally, I've just mixed the cards into my deck. It seems like it'll be more fun that way.
