You were not wrong. Target sold a LOT of Legends. And that's why we're continuing to work with mass-market stores in addition to the hobby -- because we're reaching new customers who turn into new gamers who check out game stores. We have plenty of anecdotal reports from store owners and the Men In Black, and we have the sales figures that show Munchkin sales up across the line. We're now regularly setting print quantities for some Munchkin expansions that would have been insane just two or three years ago.

When Munchkin first came out, this was a reasonable concern - it seemed faddish, and piggybacked on D&D, which wasn't doing all that great. It's just a lot of people haven't updated their thinking in the face of that decade long run. Or the explosive success of MMORPGs, which would keep the central joke quite topical even if every D&D player vanished from the face of the Earth tomorrow.

Mod note: I moved several posts into a new thread in RPG in General; they had gone off on a tangent that had nothing to do with the Stakeholders' Report.

I rather suspect that Cpt. Sqweky may be thinking of The Big Bang Theory.

I gather the Munchkin fans mostly buy their toys elsewhere. You don't see Ogre at Target and Walmart. :)

I'd like to say the same about the In Nomine crowd, but it's been so long since we've had the chance to see what happens when something new is released that I've forgotten . . .

More accurately, I think, is that Munchkin doesn't really do limited-release sales, where that's pretty much the only thing Ogre does. You don't see announcements like, "Two weeks from now, we're going to open up sales on Warehouse 23 for a limited run of Star Munchkin and Munchkin Fu. Check now to make sure you're eligible to purchase these. These are first-come, first-served, and once we run out, we may not reprint them, so set your alarms!"

Hmm, maybe we should . . .
