Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
The Dragon's Flagon throws down some grappling rules for his (self-prolcaimed) fantasy heartbreaker. I take a look at his rules through my own lens (Rules for Grappling Rules) and find them worthy - there's a core innovation there that is subtle and compelling.

I play D&D Red Box with +Jonathan Henry and diverse others. A lot of time provisioning, a short but deadly combat, and done.

Following +Jon Peterson's post about samurai in older editions of D&D, I thought about how easy it would be - and is - to craft up a samurai in the current edition. You really don't have to work that hard to get it done.

What came and went for Gaming Ballistic in 2015? How can I make 2016 better?

The post about Samurai in D&D5 was very interesting even if it was for a system I don't play! Made me wish there was an accompanying GURPS Samurai post

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
The Castles and Chimeras blog hits one out of the park with a simple concept about extending the critical hit range depending on armor worn. His version is based on Basic or OSR games; I extend his concept to D&D5. But his is the glory - he came up with it first. So read his, then read mine.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
Is there any reason not to wear a helmet? My vague recollection from every version of DnD I can recall is that helmets were just assumed to be a native part of armor

They are a native part of the armor. I seem to recall somewhere in the DMG Gygax talks about not wearing one. But honestly, if you were to go to war buck nekkid but for one thing, it'd probably be a helmet.

Re: Gaming Ballistic - Posts other than GURPS (PotG)
I am often really surprised that while bulletproof and thrust vests are very popular things, that any form of helmet seems rather unpopular with police and corrections officers
I have often wondered how well a plastic insert like once used for baseball would work under a ballcap for protection against getting hit over the head with an improvised flail like a lock in a sock |
