Default GURPS Penny Arcade?

So, I was just listening to the podcast of the guys from Penny Arcade being introduced to the "DnD Next" stuff by a representative of WotC, and it made me think of two things. First, their interest in and growing enthusiasm for this new iteration of D&D was a bit infectious for me (I had zero interest in it before). Second, I kept wishing I could hear them speak so about GURPS. "So some new mechanic to give the fighter more cool options in combat interests you? Have you seen GURPS Martial Arts (or, heck, just the regular combat rules)? And look -- social skills!"

It's cool SJGames was able to do a Penny Arcade Munchkin product... Maybe someone at SJGames could say, "Hey, here's another product of ours you guys might have fun with. Mind if we send a MIB over to demonstrate?"

(And, no, the post title was not a call for an actual GURPS Penny Arcade product.)

That brief series of comics about the film noir robot detective and his human partner sounded an awful lot like a GURPS campaign to me. Ditto the fantasy-wilderness scout troop. Most of the one-off gaming gags, not so much.

Sound like Asimov's Caves of Steel trilogy

Association with those guys has got to be at least a two edged sword. I'd be displeased by it, for instance.

Thanks for the interest, but we are not exploring a Penny Arcade license for GURPS. If something changes, we'll let you know.

Out of curiosity, why?

I imagine it is the whole dickwolves controversy. That's why I've stopped giving them my support.

Here is a link timelining the whole controversy

That is just plain ridiculous; the joke wasn't even about rape, it was about arbitrary goals in video games. Would it have been more acceptable if the slave was just being generically tortured instead?

That's got to be the most overblown reaction to anything that I have ever seen. People on the internet have way too much time on their hands, and are way too easily offended.

I agree with you Langy. And if you meet the Penny Arcade guys, they're really good people.

It would be helpful if the title of this could be changed, since it's not about a GURPS product using a Penny Arcade license. I'm guessing it's more about getting the Penny Arcade guys to give GURPS the stamp of approval.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I found their response to the official complaints completely inappropriate and turned me off of them completely.
