Re: Leather Armor from Tough Creatures
Heavy leather is not concealable or flexible. So, plate over dino leather is impossible.

Re: Leather Armor from Tough Creatures
It appears that the hide of elephants and rhinos has commonly been used to make shields in areas where those critters are present, but not armor as far as I can determine.

Re: Leather Armor from Tough Creatures
The Chinese hunted the Asian Rhinoceros to extinction because of its hide's suitability for leather armour. The new Loadouts book talks about rhinoceros hide armour (p. 15).

Re: Leather Armor from Tough Creatures
IIRC, Hippopotamus hide is typically several inches thick. Despite appearances, Hippos actually carry very little fat; they're basically a thick hide and a lot of muscle wrapped around a robust skeleton and a gigantic stomach.
Unless you use the thin (and therfore low DR) bits of hide from around the joints, or scrape and stretch the hide down to reasonable thickness (again, low DR) it's going to be about as flexible as a thick block of wood.

Re: Leather Armor from Tough Creatures
Low-Tech would not allow this combination either. The leather is way too thick to be flexible.

I have nothing useful to contribute, so I just thought I'd toss out something I found googling "brontosaurus" that caused a flood of childhood flashbacks:

Re: Leather Armor from Tough Creatures
So people reckon I should use the Leather of Quality rules from Low Tech, page 105 for 'leather' armor made from creatures with DR?
If such creatures are the norm (IE: Lands Out of Time) would a reduction in the CF of such armor be in order? |
