Default The Fantasy Trip Online Virtual Tabletop

I thought it would be so easy.

Then I discovered how few support hex grid.

None support megahexes, of course.

Have you found a VTT you actually like?

I'm currently experimenting with Roll20 -- https://roll20.net/

and Open Source Game Table -- http://gametableproj.sourceforge.net/

because both are free or have free demo versions.

Bingo!

Check out VASSAL at http://www.vassalengine.org

There is a module for MELEE/WIZARD at

http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Melee_-_Wizard

The VASSAL system is big and complex, so I might not come back with a report for at least several days.

Well, that was relatively easy, though not quite painless.

My brother in Spokane installed a copy of VASSAL, then he joined a game of MELEE that I posted on the VASSAL server.

That "join" part required some research on the VASSAL wiki.
http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Server

We did our 'chat' by telephone, but did also test the text chatting and will probably use it in the future.

The VASSAL has a set of fighters, wizards and monsters, including several of the multi-hex creatures.

This looks like a functional way for friends to get together, shake the dust off those old copies of Death Test, Orb Quest, etc., and have fun.

Enjoy!

I have been using virtual tabletop programs since 2002 to run my campaigns. I have been using Roll20 for several years now. Prior to that I used OpenRPG, which is now defunct, and I experimented with several others. Roll20 is by far the best experience I have come across to date. There are no character sheets for TFT yet, but I am sure someone will sort that out as soon as the game is published again.

VASSAL is an excellent system for a ton of board wargames -- been using it for years (though I actually prefer to work with ADC2 for designing games...)

I've been using roll20 for 5 or 6 years for a GURPS campaign. Works well across all operating systems. Can be a hassle sizing the grid maps correctly at times and there is some network latency rolling dice but overall I am very satisfied with the experience.

Vassal is Windows only, isn't it?

Fantasy Grounds will support TFT just fine. With a little effort a custom ruleset for TFT would make make FG an ideal platform to play online. It works great for GURPS.

Never having built such a custom set for FantasyGrounds, I may be out of line here, but I would think if they've done GURPS, TFT would be trivial in comparison!

I use Roll20 exclusively for my GURPS games. I tried Fantasy Grounds and Battle Grounds but the user community at Roll20 is far superior and it is free to all players plus it works on any OS since it is web interface..
I only wish that SJGames would support and endorse Roll20. I have started a thread on it asking for them to at least make an official presence by developing a GURPS character sheet for Roll20. http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=153115

t least I wish they would comment on VTTs and if that is somethign they are looking into.

They have expressed at least some interest in following/encouraging the Fantasy Grounds community.
