[OOC: despite request this hasn't been updated. It's holding up the action so I'm going to bypass it this time.]

It takes a while, and discussion with other people (including Wolf the next morning when he talks to everyone together) but the eventual answers to these questions are as follows:

Things have always been like this. In this city. No one knows where it is, no one has been able to make contact with the outside world. If you try by radio you get static or similar stuff to what is showing on TV. The TV has been showing stuff like that the entire time. Have they tried to stop it from showing stuff like that? John might not have looked, but the thing isn't even plugged in at the moment, and isn't hooked up to an aerial. They've thrown the TV into the Grim Tide (which they're not willing to explain) once already and by the time they got back to the safe-house it was back in place and twice as loud.

The key point, as Wolf explains, is that no one knows where the city is. It clearly does exist, but shouldn't. No one knows how they even came to be here; Wolf himself simply went to sleep at home and woke up in an alleyway a short way from the safe-house.

Can everyone please make a self control roll for the night. Success means you managed to avoid getting up and moving around when you should have been trying to sleep. Failure means you lose a number of hours sleep equal to your degree of failure.

Penalties are at player choice based on:
Jorin: No roll required (Vigil)
John: Worry about sister, thinking about TV
Jacob: Thinking about what the boy said
Michael: Thinking about situation

Oh, and someone needs to make a roll to convince Sam to lie down; he's being a fairly typical teenager and trying to stay up late, which you can't afford him to do.

Having gotten minimal results from four hours of work, Jorin puts the coin back in his pocket and grabs the robe and staff, then stands and stretches. He takes a few moments to reorient himself, then, noticing Sam, motions him over.

"Hey, why are you still up? You should be attempting to rest, or you'll be drowsy tomorrow."

He's an NPC teenager who's staying up late listening to and watching stuff on his ePlane (think iPod, but divergent tech). He's got his head around "you can't sleep here," and is ignoring the rest of it with the same kind of attitude that gets applied to revision for exams.

(I'm aiming to get moving here, so while I'm happy to go for conversation, I'd prefer to just jump to a roll and work from there)

Self Control roll to sleep vs 10, 15, five hours missed.

Jacob lies still, his eyes open. Tin man? Sure. They put him back together. They... they needed him. He had a purpose in the fight against the Blazen. But... they put the voices there? On purpose?

Jacob moves behind Sam after he notices Jorin failing to dissuade him. He stabs the ePlane, and looks at Sam. "Rest."
-----------------------------------------------------------
Skill 14 for Fast-Draw.

Skill 20 for Broadsword +4 for All-Out Attack +4 for Telegraphic attack = 28 without penalties. He's taking great pains to (a) target only the ePlane and (b) pull the sword back quickly and not harm Sam.

Rolls are 13 (success by one) and 10 for the sword deal.

(Fair enough. Jorin attempts to persuade Sam to 'sleep', Sam makes the reasonable-in-most-cases claim that if it's impossible there's no reason to bother, Jorin contemplates forcing the issue, but figures it's been long enough that it's too late to get a full night's rest anyway and instead gives him a little something to help.

Vigil 22 -4(Prerequisite count) = 18, roll 7 (cost 6)
12 minutes' rest

While he waits for everyone else to finish sleeping, he carefully goes over his past experiences and the theory he's learned and decides to try something new:
Delay (When I next see a Tick-tock Man; Wild Talent, IQ 12) 12 +10?(Magery) = 12(22?), roll 12, cost 1, 1 to maintain every 2 hours
Insignificance 22 -8(Prereq count) -1(Delay) = 13, roll 13, cost 2
6 minutes' rest

I'm spending a point on Retention for that, leaving one extra point and giving me Delay at 20

Maintain Spell (Delay; the next 20 hours) 22 -2(Prereq Count) = 20, roll 16, cost 8
16 minutes' rest

Jorin spends the rest of the night going over (and over, and over, and over) the information he gained about the robe, trying to piece it all together.)

[OOC: We're going with this one because it's less likely to cause an argument between Jacob and Sam that will delay things while we sort it out.]

Sam seems to realise that something has happened, and looks around trying to work out what it is. Seeing nothing however, he goes back to the episode of Dungeon Hunters that he was watching (season 4, episode 3; Jorin distracted him in the middle of the bit with the two golem going head to head).

Okay... Casting Delay so that when the Tick-Tock men next show up Jorin immediately gets Insignificance cast on himself. Thus, with a bit of luck they won't notice him. Delay then gets set to be maintained for the next 20 hours. All fine (provided that no one else objects later when Jorin appears to vanish at the first sign of danger).

[Pending Michael's roll for the night]

Wolf gets everyone up fairly early, and a kind of breakfast is served; it's mostly heated stuff from tins, but aside from the basic quality of it there's no real reason to complain. Especially when it's all that some people here seem to have eaten for months.

"We got word last night about a newcomer who's been sighted in the East district. He's hiding out in what seems to have been a shopping centre over there. We've seen a few things around there, and the place is one we tend to keep clear of. We'll need to get in and then out again before the place shuts tonight. Shouldn't be too hard, but we've had people give us the run-around in places like that for an entire afternoon before now. Simple plan therefore: we go in, find the guy, convince him that we're safe, and get out to safety. We'll be going on foot because the roads are hell around that area; worse than around here. Any questions so far?"

[OOC: Please retain note of the conditions associated with your state of wakefulness: -1FP for failing to sleep properly, -1FP per 4 hours missed sleep, and calculate the length of the day that you can stay awake after that (16-(2 x hours of sleep missed)). FP lost to this can only be recovered by sleeping later on.]

[OOC: I am honestly trying to work out how to put a map together somewhere that people can see it. If anyone can recommend a way (other than handing out email addresses) then I'm interested. At this point I'm debating getting onto DeviantArt for some of the other drawing that I'm doing and putting it there...]

"'Before the place shuts tonight'? Do you mean to say that businesses still operate with nobody running them? Are they magic? Or do the monsters run them?"

Wolf shakes his head. "No. I mean the building shuts itself. Doors, windows... They just don't work any more. And then... Things happen. We've lost people there. It's not somewhere that you want to get caught." He grunts. "Not that the rest of the city is much better; it just concentrates itself a bit more in places like that."

What about teleportation? Is that blocked? Also a another question: Did everyone get here from the same universe?
