Default How to give Advantages Enhancements through "Affliction"?

Hi guys, another question from me, sorry! My player built a binding attack, and wanted to have another power to make this binding gain constrict.

I don't know how to handle this, I was thinking of being a Beneficial Affliction, with the Advantage thing, but overruled to be "enhancement", in which he would choose a set amout of points he wanted to add to his attack. Let's say it went to 100 points, and the enhancement would give it 20 points extra. So it would be a 200 point affliction, I guess.

But then, if he spent points into the binding, it would be off-scale...
Are we building this right?

If this is only meant to affect his own Binding power, just buy the Binding with Constriction from the get-go. He doesn't have to constrict his bound foes!

I'd be hard-pressed to come up with a good way to modify someone *else's* power with an Affliction.

Just have him buy Selective Effect in addition to Constriction. This allows him to declare that his Bind will NOT be Constricting his target.

I would build this way

Binding + Constrict (+75%) + Either (Costs 4 FP OR "Loss Constrict") (-15%)

The costs of EITHER-OR is the multiplication of the two limitations.

In other words: you can normally use Binding, but you can also spend 4 PF to make your Binding gain "Constrict". As Cost 4 PF is -20% and "Loss constrict" is -75% the total limitation is -15%

As he has payed already for Binding, I would charge him only the difference to gain this "new" attack. In fact, it seems like a "new one" but it is an "artificial build" to get the same result.

Another way would be to buy a new attack which is Binding + Constriction, plus some limitations (e.g. Takes Extra Time), and make the cheaper one an Alternative Attack (B.61) of the more expensive one.

The thing is that this is just an example. I'd like to do other things, like: This guy has the same spell as mine(we are using spell as powers), Shadow Bind. But he doesn't want to crush the opponent. I'd like to have a spell(Shadow Crush) that would only be usable on Shadow Bind spell.
This leaves a bigger scope, you know? Versatility is the objective!

Then you would have Attack X; Accessibility (only on targets affected by Attack Y) (-??%)

Or, just use Selective Effect to decide if you want to crush somebody or not on each shot.

How about doing what the OP says: Afflicting enhancements?

Treat it like Afflicting an Advantage except you count the point value invested in the ability as representing a cap on the scale of Advantage you can enhance. E.g. you may be able to add Area effect to you friend's laser eyes, but might be beyond what you have paid for to enhance an ability of The UberGod.

I think I'd start with something like "Variable Enhancement" from GURPS Power-Ups : Enhancements and apply it to a single "generic" character point. So each +5% you can add to someone else's ability is worth +50% as an affliction.

Alternatively, you might be able to use something like Control (Power) like Control Psi from Pyramid #3/20: Infinite Worlds.

Something like +5% worth of enhancements per level might be workable.

Though I don't think it addresses your issue, Afflicting an Enhancement using the Advantage modifier is legit. See this thread for discussion.
