Default Online Venture Bros RPG

The Venture Bros O.T.T.R.P.G. (Online Table Top Role Playing Game)

System: GURPS

Power Level/Point Value: [50] Point Characters.

Maximum allocated points in Disadvantages: [-75] Points.

Maximum allocated points in Quirks: [-5] Points.

Maximum allowed value in any Attribute: [15+3] (at character creation).

[Note: Any ‘Primary Attribute’, such as Strength or Intelligence, is limited to 15. Any ‘Secondary Attribute’, such as HP or Will, is limited to 3 over the corresponding ‘Primary Attribute’ from which it is derived.]

Maximum allowed value in any Skill: [Attribute+5] (at character creation).

(Nearly) ANY Advantage, Power or Ability from ANY GURPS (or other!) book is permitted (Including supernatural and exotic). All such traits are subject to GM approval; however, a LOT of leeway will be given, particularly if the character’s background story is compelling. Add a high value ‘Limit’ to that Power or Ability like ‘Potential Advantage’ or ‘Uncontrollable’ to reduce it's initial cost. The aim here is not to create a mega-powerful superhero right from out of the gate. Instead, low level henchmen-types begin the game with a certain flair... a certain style, and the invisible hand of fate will steer them toward that super-scientist’s lab where they get bit by a radioactive cliché and go on to become a larger-than-life legend.

Points will be awarded for good role playing (particularly for role playing disadvantages), for actions that help your team/allies (provided these actions are in keeping with your character’s background and personality), for actions that hinder your team/allies (provided these actions are in keeping with your character’s background and personality), for giving a colorful monologue, and for engaging with your fellow players in a way that follows the basic rules for good improv comedy.

Suggested backgrounds: Members of the Guild of Calamitous Intent, Peril Partnership, Fraternity of Torment, Order Of Chaos (O.O.C.), or similar (in point of fact, the campaign will take place on the west coast of the USA where the Order Of Chaos dominates the super-villainy landscape.), Members of OSI. Super Scientists. Super Heroes. Civilians. Bounty Hunters. Paid Assassins. Extreme sports athletes. Independent costumed villains or vigilantes. Members of secret societies. Seekers of the divine magical balance. Anyone with a deep rooted obsession.

Possible meta-types: Meta Human. Super Human. Ghost. Space Alien. Robot. Normal Human. Ghost Robot. Ninja. Time Traveler. Martian. Bigfoot. Artificial Intelligence. Cyborg. Elemental. Sentient Animal. Gestalt Intelligence (Hive Mind). Fictional character from a fairy tale brought into existence (somehow/by accident) and unable to return to their fictional world. Magician (like with real magic). A Psionic brain in a jar. Being made of living shadow. or anything you can think of...

Game Play will take place via SKPYE (or something better if it can be made to work). Due to logistical restraints, having players from multiple conflicting
organizations will prove problematic. This will not be a problem for the introductory adventure which takes this into account. However, at some point thereafter, the 'party' may have to get on the same page regarding which side (Protagonists or Antagonists) they wish to run with.

Respond within the thread if you have questions about the campaign and send me private messages if you want to discuss specific character details.

Default Re: Online Venture Bros RPG

A bus of OSI recruits sits outside an interstate rest-stop EYEHOPP. All the recruits are in disguise. Most of the recruits are disguised as old people dressed for brunch. Two of the recruits seated way in the back are wearing bright orange and yellow super-villain costumes - with capes! It seems that they misread the orders regarding the disguise field exam which instructed everyone to look like senior citizens going to brunch. The two recruits who are seated behind you seem to be arguing. One says, "Aquaman ?!?! Aquaman is a putz. Aquaman is the dictionary definition of a lame superhero. The wonder twins place 'flush me' signs on his back. Even Gleep could kick his ass. Aquaman ...". The other replies, "Aquaman is the legitimate ruler of the world's entire ocean underworld! He's all like Twilight under water. He controls all undersea life. He could, like, tell a bunch of jelly fish to swim up your sewer pipe and sting you on the heiny when you're having your morning constitutional. And he is the king of the oceans! KING! That's royalty my friend. And 3/4ths of the planet is covered in water. So by default, Aquaman rules 3/4ths of the planet! Stew on that o' pal o' mine." At this, you just have to ask what the hell they are talking about. You turn around and pose your question. They inform you that they were playing this thing called 'Heroes and Villains', where you choosing five people - super heroes, historical figures, fictional characters, living, dead, real or imaginary, to represent your side in a fight to protect the world from five similarly selected 'super villains', who are hell bent on the world's destruction. They tell you that they play games like this all the time in 'Unmasked'." Before you can ask what 'unmasked' is, they continue: "'Unmasked' is basically a hangout for recruits and henchmen set up as a chat forum on social media. It's a place where we can take off our costumes, OSI recruits and Guild and O.O.C. Henchmen alike,"..."metaphorically speaking", interrupts the other recruit. The first continues, "...yeah, yeah...metaphorically speaking, and just hang out with people who know what it's like to risk their lives day in and day out, for like, no recognition." After an awkward pause, the recruit sitting behind THEM sits up and says, "OK. Q from Star Trek, The Tick, Gandalf the White, Cthulhu, and Jon Pertwee's 'Doctor Who'." After a brief pause where the two recruits who this recruit interrupted both face-palm at the exact same time - one of them continues, "You can't pick Q OR Cthulhu, dumb ass, they are villains! VILLAINS! We are picking HEROES!". At this, the third recruit says, "You said, 'ANY CHARACTER', and those are characters." And again, after another awkward pause during which the two recruits roll their eyes in a way that indicates a sense of lame disgust, they ask...

"Who would YOU chose?"
