[Sorcery] Touch Only Buff Spells
By default Buff Spells are Self, Touch & Gaze 100yds rage.
Is it "legal" to make a Buff Spell only Self & Touch? If yes. I would add the modifiers melee R:C (-30%) & No Parry (-5%) That would bring the cost of a Buff from 12 pts of the basic Buff to 7 pts Touch Only Buff. What does the Hive-Mind think? |

Re: [Sorcery] Touch Only Buff Spells
I use the "Touch" modifier when I do Touch only Buff spells. I wouldn't allow Self Only as a modifier - it allows you to neatly bypass the whole "Alternative Abilities" disadvantage since you can just afflict yourself with advantages rather than having them.

Also, I did not include any "Self-Only" modifiers above. Self is by default a valid target of a buff spell. As it says in the Sorcery Book p.9: "Most Buff spells have a range of 100 yards. If the sorcerer casts a Buff on himself or by touching a willing subject, there are no rolls required." |

Possibly "Melee Attack", page 112 in Basic.

More seriously, if it's Self only there's no need to Touch...so, no.

Re: [Sorcery] Touch Only Buff Spells
I think you're conflating some terms here (or perhaps I am). ALL buffing spells can be used on anyone (including the caster). To build a "self only buff" you'd simply take the advantage and create as a spell. So, for example if you have a "Self only Buffing Armor spell" you'd just buy DR with the Sorcery modifier.

Re: [Sorcery] Touch Only Buff Spells
That's a fair point - I think I would have done this differently since it would like be cheaper. IF you want a spell like that, Self Only is a -50%. Since basically to have the advantages is only 19 points vs. 27 points, although, with a self-buffing spell you can cast the spell, then switch to another spell and still have the effects. (My notes say this is why I did this, but I didn't really remember until I went back and looked.)

I want to eliminate the ranged part of the buff spells. But I also want the caster to be able to cast it on others but only by touching not ranged. |
