Re: Dagger used as main gauche
Whether you like the old or new versions best, I'm glad this one has a clear ruling in the new materials!

Re: Dagger used as main gauche
TFT is a game with highly structured but sparsely articulated rules, so we have to address many new cases using established 'case law'. If cesti are allowed to make 2 attacks in HTH (and I can't find any explicit rules that say they are or are not), then you have three choices: 1) you should also be allowed to do 1 fist and 1 dagger, two fists, a bite and a cestus, or whatever - only the specific case of two daggers is prohibited. Or 2) only 2 cesti are permitted and everything else is forbidden. Or 3) you are making this up entirely on your own and will specify some combination of things you permit.

Re: Dagger used as main gauche
It seems pretty obvious to me that the intent is not that you can "punch twice to get two attacks" in HTH, nor that you can "stab and then also punch to get two attacks" in HTH.
What you can do, is get the +1 for attacking unarmed in HTH. |

Re: Dagger used as main gauche
So you would rule Cestus gets 2 attacks (at -3 each) in melee combat but not HTH?

Re: Dagger used as main gauche
Striking with only one cestus while grappling with the other is a clinch. (Pun intended. Read as holding and hitting)

Re: Dagger used as main gauche
In a system rife with elegant abstractions, HTH is clearly one of the more abstract and less elegant mechanics. That said (and to Skarg's point), common sense tells me that it is extremely unlikely for either combatant to have two hands free during an HTH fight and thus a second attack, regardless of how the figures are armed, should not be allowed.

If you are in HTH with an octopus, plan to make a new character soon.

Re: Dagger used as main gauche
It sounds like people are leaning toward a blanket ruling that there are no extra attacks permitted in HTH, despite the diverse ways in which that can be done in melee combat. Any exceptions to that?
