Re: The World of Dreams
A house where the furniture is oddly placed. A bedroom with two beds, one of them sideways and blocking the doorway and a living room where the couch also blocks the entry way so that you have to climb over it to get into the living room from the rear of the house.

Quote:
The revenge dystopia: Even though the prisoners have no memory of their crimes and no reason to commit another one, they're still imprisoned just so they can suffer extended punishment for their deeds, which misery serves as a deterrent for potential criminals outside. There's a reality TV show featuring the prisoners running outside for the edutainment and indoctrientation of the main population. Prisoner's memories are routinely wiped daily. Starting over ever day keeps the prisoners bewildered as to why they're there and why they're being punished, as well as helping to prevent the prisoners from forming any internal gangs, escape plans, or even mutual support groups or social relationships. |

Re: The World of Dreams
I had the idea that they were mostly political prisoners kept ignorant of their pasts so they wouldn't know who who to trust or that they had a cause.
A small town grocery story with an elevated third story viewing gallery. A gigantic bail bondsman office with two very long counters but only two staff. A chariot race with crude chariots built with planks of wood. |

Talking to Howard Tayler about which SF writers read Schlock Mercenary. All the ones we discussed are dead.

A man sitting in one of those elevated beach life guard chairs...but it's just on the corner of a city block. He's arguing politics and economics with passersby.

Re: The World of Dreams
An airbus that takes the name more literally. It's a small commuter "jet" with stubby vestigial wings too small for the rest of it. Even so it takes off and up to about fifty feet in the air, and flies across town only to land vertically at a bus stop to let off and take on passengers.
