Combat Reflexes: 15 points

You have extraordinary reactions,
and are rarely surprised for more than
a moment. You get +1 to all active
defense rolls (see Defending, p. 374),
+1 to Fast-Draw skill, and +2 to Fright
Checks (see Fright Checks, p. 360). You
never “freeze” in a surprise situation,
and get +6 on all IQ rolls to wake up,
or to recover from surprise or mental
“stun.” Your side gets +1 on initiative
rolls to avoid a surprise attack – +2 if
you are the leader. For details, see
Surprise Attacks and Initiative (p. 393).
Combat Reflexes is included in
Enhanced Time Sense (p. 52). If you
have ETS, you cannot also take
Combat Reflexes.
Looks like Flyndaran was thinking about Combat Reflexes in combination with the Deep Sleeper Perk.

From the Basic Set p. 101

Deep Sleeper
You can fall asleep in all but the
worst conditions, and can sleep
through most disturbances. You never
suffer any ill effects due to the quality
of your sleep. You get an IQ roll to
notice disturbances and awaken, just
like anyone else; success is automatic
if you have Combat Reflexes

yep seems like the rules diferentiate between weather or not you wake up and what state you are in when you do

Sounds right.
Though that means that some of us have a new perk: Rapid wake up.
I only wish I had Deep Sleeper and to a lesser extant, Combat Reflexes. I don't do well under pressure.

Though from my reading speed of waking up correlates with animal size. The smaller the animal, the faster they attain full alertness, on average. I think the prevailing hypothesis is that it's more about brain size and metabolic changes during the switch from sleep to consciousness.
