M179 doesn't appear to allow you to Enchant that spell into an item, so a powerstone sounds like the only way to offset its ongoing costs.

Since it requires regular fuel to begin with, the Create Fuel spell seems a lot more essential. 400 base and (M57) 32,000 for 7 levels of Power to reduce energy cost, and you can create TL7 fuel (uranium) for free.

The gasoline (or diesel) we put in cars today is not the same as what was used 30 years ago, a lot of things including the exact type of octane used have changed over the years. Modern cars may run on '80s style gas and cars from the '80s may be able to run on modern gas, but in both cases long and short term performance will suffer if you don't perform more frequent maintenance than otherwise.
