[3e] Crimson Skies J2 Fury
I think I had vaguely heard of Crimson Skies, but knew little about it. Since it popped up on the forum, I have discovered it is a veritable treasure trove of airplanes for me to design (y'all might have noticed they are my favorite).
Here's my first foray into the world of Crimson Skies. Since I'm working in 3e, the 1930s are TL6. I used the MVDS, as many of these planes could be used in a divergent WWII campaign without a backwards glance. Curtiss-Wright J2 Fury (TL6) http://firedrake.org/roger/csarchive...s/curtisj2.htm The Fury uses 32 gallons of aviation fuel per hour at routine usage. A full load of fuel and ammo costs $108. Range is 400 miles. Subassemblies: Heavy Fighter chassis +3; Heavy Fighter wings with High-Agility option +3; 3 retractable wheels +0. Powertrain: 639-kW aerial supercharged HP gas engine with 639-kW prop and 90-gallon self-sealing fuel tank (Fire 13). Occ.: 1 CS Cargo: 9 Body Armor All: 2/3 Weaponry: 2xAircraft LMGs/Bruin .30-cal. [Wings:F] (500 rounds each).* 2xLong Aircraft HMGs/Bruin .40-cal. [Wings:F] (400 rounds each).* 20mm Long Aircraft AC/Bruin .70-cal. Goliath [Wings:F] (180 rounds). *Linked in pairs. Equipment: Body: Medium radio and transmitter and receiver (10-mile), navigation instruments, autopilot. Statistics: Size: 21'x28'x14' Payload: 0.57 tons Lwt.: 3.5 tons Volume: 224 Maint.: 35 hours Cost: $32,685 HT: 12. HPs: 260 Body, 240 each Wing, 24 each Wheel. aSpeed: 250 aAccel: 5.5 aDecel: 58 aMR: 14 aSR: 2 Stall Speed 64. Take-Off Run: 372 yards. Landing Run: 410 yards. gSpeed: 216 gAccel: 11 gDecel: 10 gMR: 0.5 gSR: 2 Ground Pressure Very High. 1/8 Off-Road Speed. Design Notes: The design uses "standard" weapons from the MVDS rather than designing the .40 and .70 caliber weapons. Design speed was 241 mph; design loaded weight was 6,910 lbs. These were adjusted to the "historical" figures. Empty weight is 5,775 lbs.
