I happen to have questions about fairly basic magic stuff.
I summon the hivemind to enlighten me on my questions of magic in gurps.
I happen to not have much experience with magic in gurps, thanks to a lot of ultratech and ultratech games. I have a player using a power stone, an energy reserve, and a familiar to cast his spells. He also has recover energy at some 15 or above skill. I don't believe it effects effect the power stone recovery rate. But I am unsure of rather or not it effects the magical energy reserve or not. |

Re: I happen to have questions about fairly basic magic stuff.
The spell Recover Energy was written before Energy Reserve was a thing, being a remnant of the 3e system.
That said, I always rule that since it's Recover Energy and not Recover Fatigue that it affects Energy Reserve (Magic) as it would FP spent from casting. Clear as mud?

I concur.
Recover (YOUR) Energy, not the energy in a stone, or energy you're allowed to use but belongs to a familiar.

Re: I happen to have questions about fairly basic magic stuff.
Addendum to my previous post:
I agree with the others that Recover Energy should never apply to a powerstone. I believe DF5: Allies has info on whether a familiar has access to its master's spells, particularly Recover Energy, at least in DF-land. If the familiar has access to those spells, then I would say "yes"; if not, then "no". Recover Energy's an odd duck even among spells because it's more of an automatic "Regeneration (FP/ER Only; 1 FP/ER per ten minutes (give or take); Accessibility: Only When Resting)" deal than it is a proper spell, a relic of 3e or possibly even 1e's magic rules from before Regeneration was that big a thing (and possibly even before Regeneration was added to the rule set). If I was redoing Magic, I'd probably get rid of the spell altogether, replacing it with a custom "refresh energy" advantage.
