How to cripple a WWII army
If it was TL 8, I could just say EMP, but that doesn't do much to TL 6/early TL 7 equipment. So how am I going to create Twilight '45? ...but with demons?

Re: How to cripple a WWII army
What sort of crippling do you want? If the goal is to be like Twilight 2000, with a breakdown of society, I'd just throw in something that kills 75% of the population (say, a smallpox mutation. Or if you have demons, all sorts of possible nasties).

Re: How to cripple a WWII army
Demons of the sea should do the job. Somebody dropped a depth charge in just the wrong place and awakened something horrible that had slept for a few thousand years. The allied armies in Europe were crippled without supply convoys, and the Germans were able to reorganise once the allied air forces were out of fuel. Now the allies are desperately building factories in France and developing fuel synthesis, while the Soviets transition to less motorised transport and fewer aircraft, and the Germans mount commando operations to destroy oil wells.

Have demons possess the generals and politicians.

This. Maybe "Dies the Fire" style. Could actually be a supernatural "just because" sort of thing, or rationalized as a microbe that eats fuel or just spoils it. It might also be a contagion that causes zombies, or just a superflu.

Some kind of gasoline-eating bug is probably the best way to go. Gas is basically hydrocarbons so it's a good food source if you can find a way to fix nitrogen.

Make it steel-eating bacteria (just to be different). This also collapses civilization nicely. Player characters get to be paranoid about the cleanliness of their weapons, unto sterility. And you get a scientific explanation for rust monsters.
