Re: CRAZY idea!! A Battlefields reflection
I forget, is that true even for increasing only one dimension? E.g., 24" x 36" or 24" x 48"? I'm guessing that part of the increase has to do with the width of the printer/assembly machines, but I'm wondering if just increasing the length would be more of a linear increase.

OK. That's too bad, but I'm all for keeping things sustainable instead!

Re: CRAZY idea!! A Battlefields reflection
Similar to how I feel about Battlefields. Saw in the update that they did a minimal overprint...makes me sad because that says "We don't expect much demand after the Kickstarter fulfills", but I can't get upset about it because I have at least some understanding of how expensive dead stock is; "This really cool thing sold out but not fast enough to justify a reprint" beats "We tied up too much money and warehouse space in stock that just isn't selling, and now we're going under" every day of the week.

Re: CRAZY idea!! A Battlefields reflection
SJG know very well the dangers of overstock, particularly where the Ogre line is concerned. Recall that, at the time of the ODE Kickstarter, there were a significant number of decade-plus old miniature sets still available from the early-2000s Ogre releases. Their caution is very well earned from harsh experience.

Re: CRAZY idea!! A Battlefields reflection
We live in a glorious time for map making. Not only are there PDFs available of official maps and a windows program for making maps but getting stuff printed is pretty cheap. I paid about US$18 for a nicely printed tyvek paper map the same size as the new scale Ogre map. Would be pretty easy to mount that on chipboard if I so desired.
OTOH for standalone maps, that kind of paper is durable enough that it can be stored rolled up in a art tube with my playmats and used as is whenever needed. |

If something changes dramatically, and we can prove that the demand is there, we won’t be opposed to reprinting Battlefields. Until then, though, this is effectively a one-n-done printing.

How about a focused KS that starts with a pair of 24" x 18" mats that overlap to make the full 24" x 36ish". High level stretch goal that if production costs are met, it gets printed as a single piece. Worst case scenario, we get 2-part crater mats.

Re: CRAZY idea!! A Battlefields reflection
With all the maps available, maybe the next step is more mods.
