Re: GURPS Rifts?
The best advice for converting Rifts into anything is to not buy any Palladium products so that they finally go out of business, and people won't be bothered by their absurd (and legally questionable) IP policy. Someone less paranoid could hopefully buy them.
I'm bitter about it, I suppose, but I'm not buying anymore Palladium materials (I sold the stuff I had) until they change their policy or die. I'm sure there are other role-playing fans like me who feel that their settings are pretty good, but their settings, policies, and personality are lousy. |

Re: GURPS Rifts?
Actually, as long as you don't distribute it outside your own group, and don't do it for money, I think you're OK.
I think....

Re: GURPS Rifts?
As long as you own the GURPS books and own the Rifts books, I bet you can do whatever you want, _provided_ you keep it within your own gaming group.
Rifts is a really neat world, but I just don't care for the game system. Taking legal steps to ensure that _fewer_ people are exposed to their game world can't be helping their bottom line either. |

Re: GURPS Rifts?
Reading about such heavy-handed tactics really bugs me. But before I make up my mind to do everything within my buying power to undermine and destroy Palladium Games, I'd like to learn the reason the company acts like that. I'm no psychologist, nor am I familiar with corporate business practices, so if someone would be kind enough to lay it all out for me, I'd appreciate it.

Re: GURPS Rifts?
Someone a few months back tried to make a GURPS Rifts game on a forum. It died sadly. Darn.
I wonder if (and when) Palladium kicks the bucket if SJGames might come in, and buy the rights to it. That would make some crazy worldbooks.... |

Its really one of those dead horses of gaming that kicks every once in a while. Want an everything and the Kitchen Sink setting? Try to convert TORG to GURPS...or better yet use the concepts in INFINITE WORLDS and have fun!! Create your own stuff - and nobody can sue you. - Ed Charlton

*le sigh*
And to think, before posting this I was a pretty big fan of Rifts. Hear that? That's the sound of my illusions shattering like brittle glass. ;)
