Default GURPS WW2 in W23 - what next?

Hi!

I know there once was a time when SJG was doing GURPS WW II, but I have a feeling that they never really sold very well when compared to other GURPS products. If this is a wrong opinion, please do not hesitate to correct me!

Having said that, now that a number of GURPS products have been published in nothing but digital format, has any thought ever been given to extending the WW II line beyond what we have now?

I noticed a few titles that aren't in my physical collection that have been listed in W23 such as "Their Finest Hour" and a handful of others.

Surely some GURPS fans would like to see this continue beyond - well, I believe the last physical product was "Motor Pool" but I might be wrong.

Hey! I know I'd pay to see the Pacific Theater - even if it is a digital copy.

Any thoughts?

Bruce Gray

This old thread may give you some idea of where things ended with the WWII line. It does appear that they didn't, as you suspect, sell particularly well, and any new works would need to have a radically different format to fit WH23's current requirements.

Also the main requirement would be a writer interested in doing it. Part of that is anticipated sales but they would likely need to have a personal interest as well.

I never understood why they thought that WWII could support a series. One book, sure; and yeah, there's more than enough material on WWII to fill many volumes of books. But I never saw any demand from the GURPS community for more than a single volume. Thus the low sales…

This happened for a while: the titles were Red Tide, Michael's Army, Their Finest Hour, Leyte Gulf, Doomed White Eagle and The Secret of the Gneisenau. Martial Arts: Fairbairn Close Combat Systems came later, and is a thoroughly 4e book.

There are some WWII-related titles in the W23 Wishlist for GURPS, although they'd be in the 4e format, rather than continuations of the 3e series.

I've done a lot of Japanese vehicle designs over the years, which might be of some use to you. I also have several USN aircraft designs. See the link to my website below.
