It is a nice alternative to the likely more common kitchen sink realities coming from many parallels slamming together.

To expand Dalillama's list in the first post, three traditional GURPS fantasy worlds are Loren'dil, Gabrook, and Olokun, which Banestorm mentions as the homeworlds of several species transported to Yrth: Loren'dil are the most pastoral bunch such as halflings and centaurs, Gabrook is the home of reptile-men and kobolds, and Olokun is a watery world of merfolk.

Pulse

Pulse is not a particularly high mana world... at most places and times. About once a month various locations from 30 to 60 miles from each other receive a massive pulse of supernatural power. Those who know where and when the pulse will come can shape the world, weather, and people nearby.

These "Fountains" of power form the center of powerful city states shaped by the wills of their masters. The country side around them is fortified into impressive defenses, the people shaped to live on the renewed land, and their guardians transformed into power warriors and monsters optimized to defend the customized terrain.

Variety is the key to safety: if two neighbors both transform their people into water-breathing merfolk and guard their lands with sea serpents, the defensive edge against one another is lost, and cities employing similar terrain usually share a culture, willingly or not.

Some cities live in the tree tops and give their citizens suburb balance, while others live in undergrowth of forests and rely on wood craft and beasts that can fit between trees. Some increase the fertility of their lands and rely on numbers for protection. Others turn their surroundings into desert or ice fields and give their population the traits needed to survive in such a wasteland. Some live underground. Others live on plateaus, protected by massive cliffs.
