I am, btw, working on a token/portrait for electric jellies as part of my Token Tuesday series on Dungeons on Automatic.

Incidentally, if anyone wants a nomenclature for people who may be encountered in sewers, well, Mayhew's London Labour and the London Poor is available online.

The nomenclature is good, the Dore illustrations could and have inspired whole steampunk campaigns.

It occurs to me that in medieval cities catacombs were sometimes used as sewers. I remember that in one northern English city a cave that had a stream running through it was used as a sewer (caused some nasty cholera outbreaks in the 1800s). One quarry under Paris was used as a sewer in the later middle ages.

Sewers, caves, catacombs, weren't kept all that separate in low tech societies. In a DF setting sewers could easily be connected to dungeons, natural cavers, catacombs. Fortresses might have exits into the sewers as a means of being able to secretly leave the fortress during a siege. Some creature might prefer the conditions of sewers but any subterranean dweller might end up in a DF sewer.
