Because you downloaded it from the internet. By default Office does this.

No good reason that I know of: the workbook includes no macros. I guess it's a general warning about files downloaded from the InterNet that are of times which could include macros.

It does it even with text files opened with Word.

Because it was downloaded from the web. Microsoft's gotten big on not letting you do anything with downloaded documents unless you explicitly allow it. It's nothing to do with the file itself, just the fact that your computer doesn't know where it came from.

Which is really odd because ericbsmith's spaceships spreadsheet has no such warning attached to it, and I just redownloaded that the same day I redownloaded this one. The only thing I can think of is that one is .xls, and the other is .xlsm.

I think eric's one has macros, and you need to put him on a whitelist for them to work. Perhaps your computer already has him saved as a recognised trusted author.

No, I'm saying is works just fine, no warnings. But Brett's doesn't without turning off a bunch of options.

My spreadsheet doesn't work without you turn off options?

That's weird. If you let me know what options those are I'll look into it.

Is the availability of the GURPS Handbook of the Planets inhibiting the development of a proper tool for the job? Is the kind-of-okay the enemy of the good?

The existence of it has pushed the development of a real program back on my list, but it was far enough back on my list that it hasn't changed the situation much, especially considering I'm not sure I've got the chops for the task.
