Default Speeding up first turns.

We tested it at BGGcon and it worked great so I'm passing it along.

I suggest that with new players, or anyone that wants the first round to go faster, limit each player to one move (no matter what).

It lets everyone explore a new room, and have a fight. That will let them get a grasp on how the game works and not overwhelm them with Searching or Deals.

Lest anyone be concerned that having only one Move will limit your movement: It should be noted that if you use all your Move for your turn, you can go through any exit (unless it's blocked by a wall), regardless of the actual cost.

I really haven't found any trouble with people absorbing the idea of deals or searching.
On the other hand, I AM concerned about individual player's turns going on a long time.

The house rule I'm planning on trying out is that you can only Explore one room on your turn. No other uses of Move are further limited.

And when you say "first round", do you mean once around the table or one game? Cause with more than 4 players (which is right around the corner, no pun intended), it won't be possible for everyone to explore a new room.

Once around the table.

Another idea we discussed was one move the first round, two the second, and then three for the third and later.

Don't demo to new players with 6 players involved? I mean, it's a suggestion for dealing with first time players, and if you've got first time players, maybe playing with 6 isn't such a good idea. . .

That's the answer.

The thing for everyone to keep in mind is that this is a big dungeon crawl boardgame. Those are rarely fast-playing games.

Caveat: all, assuming you haven't used any yet.

'Cos I know some munchkin out there is gonna use some of his move, and then try the "all remaining" as "all" to get through a locked door. :P

HA! I've already had someone try this at a demo.
