Fairy dust 2nd chance sparkles
The "Second chance" card confuses me.
It reads "Every time you play an item that says "usable once only," roll a die. On a 6, the item comes back to you and may be used again, even in the same battle. Does that mean that I could hypothetically use the same +5 potion twice in one battle, giving me a +10? Or does it just mean it goes back to my hand and it's effects are withdrawn, but I can place it again if I so choose? |

This is the correct interpretation.

Re: Fairy dust 2nd chance sparkles
Would the above scenario also work for Doppelganger, making you essentially quadruple your fighting power if you roll a 6? It seems to fit the criteria (one time use Item) and the above ruling means that cards with persistent effects keep their effects even if they are scooped up and reused in the same battle to add to the effect.

(This is not supported on the card, which did not anticipate the situation of multiple uses of Doppelganger, but I will make sure to get the FAQ updated with this ruling, because it's the one we're going with.) Whenever a Munchkin card or rule talks about "fighting alone," it means no other player has joined your fight. It doesn't mean you can't have Hirelings or Steeds or, in this case, a Doppelganger.

The card does, however, say that it summons your exact duplicate. In my mind the duplicate isn't exact unless it's also a player.

If you'd like to make a house rule to that effect in your own game, that's not unreasonable.

Re: Fairy dust 2nd chance sparkles
Two points of note:
Elder + Doppelganger would be awesome. Elder + Doppelganger + (a lucky roll with) Second Chance would be even more awesome. And I haven't seen the full text for Avatar yet, so it might could be even more so.
