Default Asking for help at your game table.

I saw a question in the 101 forum I wanted to discus, but that's not the place:

How do you handle this at your table?

Player A ask for Help, Player B agrees for even split every other treasure (no pick).

Player C buffs the monster- Player B holds a magic lamp and wants to renegotiate the amount of treasure (to first pick and +1 in his/her favor).

Here's what we do-

When we remember we ask for help differently then the standard rules indicate-

We ask as follows-

Will you lend...
"your munchkin's help" or "you and your munchkin's help"
('combat strength' or 'combat strength + one shot/hand items')-

so in this example Player B was only be obligated to add combat strength.

If for any reason this changes- (like above) we renegotiate- Player B might be better off facing the 'bad stuff' than Player A.

Player B- "I have a Magic lamp, (you/we) won't get a level but I want first pick, alternating (meaning if the treasure is odd I'll get the extra). - or we can try to run away."

Player A- "No way- how about you get first pick and third pick for a total of two treasure of the five?"

Player B - "um...First two picks?"

Player A- "Whatever, fine- the monster is growing old over there."

------------

A player is never obligated to use any one shot items if they are a helper in combat. If you want to play that way, that's fine, but that is a house rule.

Also, reread Magic Lamp. Since it says it can only be used on your turn, and it is player A's turn, player B may not use the magic lamp.

Seems like your intent was to discuss renegotiation of treasure split due to a change in circumstance in combat.

We do it, all the time. As mentioned, no one is obligated to use anything else. If a monster is wandered in, the helper can (and does in our group) say they'll use a card for another split/pick of treasure etc. The bargaining becomes really fun to watch when the bad stuff doesn't affect the helper much!

To be clear, once a helper has agreed to join the fight, the helper is committed to the arrangement as originally made. They are welcome to renegotiate if circumstances change ("OK, I can play a card to help us win, but if I'm doing that, I want another Treasure"), but if their renegotiation offer is refused, they are bound by the earlier arrangement.

Having said THAT, a deal such as "We'll alternate picks; you go first" is easily extensible, and "You get the first two picks and I'll take the rest" becomes very nice indeed once monsters get added. It's a good reason to be clever when making (or accepting) offers to help!
