Default Voodoo Zombies, Treasure & Battle ?

Hello, fellow Munchkiniacs!

I need help from the forum with a rule clarification.

Here's the course of events:

A Voodoo-Zombie is in battle, trying to get an advantage. Since curses may be played any time in game, he uses some on the other Munchkins. Thanks to his Mojo, he may draw a face-up treasure after doing so.

The controversy is: can the Voodoo-Zombie get these treasures (items) in play right away although he currently is in battle and should not be allowed to mess with his items?

(The rules forbid changing items from carried to used in battle.)

I was leaning towards saying yes, he may, since the rules say treasure cards can be played as soon as you get them.

Opinions?

I could be wrong but I would say yes you may play them however you can not change weapons around. So if you were using two hands and got a better 1 handed item you could not start using it but only carry it.

Will be interesting to see official answer as I can see the arguments on both sides.

Your statement is correct, but not complete. The rules also say you cannot play items during combat, with the exception of one-shots:

So I'm going to say "No, you can't play the item," to the original question. The only time you can play non-one-shot items during combat is if the card overrules the general rule.

Well, you are absolutely correct of course. Thought I had read through everything and there I go posting, having been strategically blind.

Still, I think I have a small case here since the rule about treasure seems to conflict with the rule about combat. The combat rules feel more important, yet I still think there is a contradiction because of the Voodoo-Zombies ability.

Anybody wanna join my side? C'mon! :-D

The official answer is that you can not play new Items during combat, since that is what the rules say, so people joining your side would not change the rules...

Since the rules explicitly forbid this, the official response is that no argument can trump an explicit rule.

"A Treasure may be played . . . as soon as you get it" is not blanket permission. It still must be legal to play that Treasure at that moment, and it is not legal to play non-one-shot Items during combat.
