1/180 is an oddball scale for miniature wargamers. 1.5x is 1/120-- I'm saying 1/100 would pull in a much larger consumer base and would be worth the increase. Or keep the 1/120 ground scale with oversized models.

That being said, I'm sure this will be one of the issues that SJG is going to put to a survey when the new project kicks off. |

Re: Can kickstarter revive Car Wars minis
How about 1:720 scale, then you could play out your games on the maps in the arena book without even having to copy them out.
Lets see that makes a 6-12 ft long car 0.1 - 0.2 inches long. At that scale, you wouldn't even need to make them look different, no-one would know anyway. <<JOKE>> The 3x scale looks good for conventions and is a modellists dream, but do SJG really have to subscribe to such a scale for us? We all managed to get by before. We had matchbox and hotwheels cars up the ying yang (there was even a line of battle cars that were all Max Max'tastic) and modelling the weapons wasn't too hard as CW doesn't tend to have external weapons anyway. The cars are usually shown at most with a gun barrel. That can be done with a drill and a bit of wire. Put a disk of milliput on top as a turret if you want and you are done. Back in the day we had a system of multiplying the neccessary numbers by three. Even our most mathematically challenged players could grasp that (and frankly if you were poor at maths, CW wasn't your game). I even made my hotwheels scale turning key by the use of complex tools such as a ruler and protractor. This was after about a month of owning the game and pre-dates my exposure to the fabulous convention efforts reported in ADQ. The new OGRE looks BIG, was it scaled up for the Designers special edition? If so this may influence what we get. Maybe the issues with the 5th edition will suggest caution, maybe not. I think that minatures at a useable scale (1") should be limited to solid plastic basic looking vehicles of each of the major types. I'd like to see a rig in there as that could be hard to source elsewhere. I suspect this would rapidly become too expensive and we'd all start bleating about the lack of variety. CW wasn't really a miniatures game, we had Dark Future for that. |

Re: Can kickstarter revive Car Wars minis
The old Car Wars minis are the same scale as the cars used with Formula D and Formula D is very popular. Rush n' Crush use the same size cars also, but is not very popular.

Re: Can kickstarter revive Car Wars minis
I'd think the answer is to do something like Ground Zero Games does: release the mini's in two scales. A 6mm one with minimal customization ability for in the "classic" game and 15 or 25 mm with more customization possibilities. In essence, the smaller scale ones become replacements for the counters in the main game, and the larger scale one would be a "miniatures version" ala Ogre Miniatures. In this way, the mini's also become fully useable for people who need cards in those scales for other gaming systems as well.

Re: Can kickstarter revive Car Wars minis
When the Ogre Kickstarter hit the Car Wars level, I rushed over to my FLGS to let them know. The next evening I brought in my copy of Car Wars Deluxe and ended up leaving it there. I went back to the store last night and walked into this sight...
http://michaelcox.me/images/sjgames/carWars1.jpg http://michaelcox.me/images/sjgames/carWars2.jpg http://michaelcox.me/images/sjgames/carWars3.jpg They were cutting weapons from Warhammer 40K sprues and gluing them onto Hot Wheels. I thought it was awesome and had to share.
