IIRC, the Bodice Ripper was a 6hd creature in early editions of D&D.

Does the combination of the Norse-ish setting and the term "God of Wisdom" make you think "Odin"? Great, use Odin. If you already have an established game world, though, and your God of Wisdom is already established as Athena, this makes it easier to slot it in.
What is wrong with having people who don’t like Loki, Thor, Odin and Tyr be the ones to change them to their pantheon? Loki sounds a lot cooler than a generic god of mischief to me. Plus most people I know who have clerics worship a god and then adventure in a new place that has a different set of active deities. I just assume that a cleric has access to spells all over the world.

And why don’t Pegasi not get renamed to winged horses or Minotaurs into bull headed men? I think it is because the original mythology was a lot cooler than the generic naming. The same is true of deities in my opinion.

Well, in the world of Dragon Heresy/Hall of Judgment you will find hofsvarpnir and nautmathr. So there's that.

Not all of GURPS is generic.
DF is generic but GURPS Fantasy has several settings.
  • Banestorm
  • Romona Arcana
  • Thaumatology: Alchemical Baraoqe
  • Arabian Nights
  • Crusades
  • Camelot
  • Celtic Myth
  • China
  • Japan
  • Egypt
  • Greece
  • Castle Fakenstein
  • Conan
  • Discworld
  • Witchworld
  • Madlands
  • Myth
  • Atlantis
  • Goblins
Thats just the ancient fantasy types.

As Kromm never ceases to mention DFRPG isn't GURPS, and while the former may be built on the latter it isn't 100% the same.

Did you by any chance look up what "Alger" means in Icelandic?

Yes. My shame is manifest on my face for missing all four lone pairs.

Not sure I'd classify Falkenstein and Goblins as 'ancient'...

Really I want the Dungeon Fantasy game to succeed. I feel that GURPS people are a little tone deaf when it comes to knowing what is cool so I try to offer my two cents. Just think of the name of the games GURPS which is not very sexy especially when compared to Dungeons and Dragons which just sounds nice in comparison. Hall of Tyr just sounds interesting and evokes a Norse aspect. Hall of Judgement sounds much less cool and you really don’t know what it is about by hearing the title. Odin, Thor and Loki are well known names of gods and they evoke the Viking genre. Comic books freely use Thor and Loki and people know them just like they know what an elf or a troll is. But it is not up to me to decide so I will just sit back and watch.
