You just need the right venue. Pipes work fine for drill, or similar things and they can sound well in a Celtic ballad as long as they are not to loud.

Traditional Swiss yodeling is slower and a capella, unlike the uptempo Bavarian or cowboy pop-yodeling that might be more familiar. Still doesn't sound terribly dwarf-ish, although the principle of communicating by echoes off mountain sides (or between cavern chambers) certainly is.
The Alphorn is definitely a dwarf thing, though. |
