Default #RPG-a-day Topic 5: Most old-school RPG owned

I'm doing RPG-a-day in August, as promoted by Dave Chapman (Autocratik).

Most Old School RPG owned

Sorry. I don't know what this means.

When I checked Google I got the impression that Old School RPG is a computer games thing. I don't own any. When I asked on a gaming discussion forum I was told that Old School RPGs are comparatively recent games that attempt to revive or re-create the approach or play experience of the games that were before Basic D&D came out in 1979. I don't know what that approach or play experience was, and I don't think I own any RPGs that attempt to revive or re-create it. Certainly I own none in which that goal is stated.

I did once own classic 'Traveller', which dates to 1977, but that would be a Old game, not an Old School game. The oldest RPGs that are still on my shelves are Matagaming's "The Fantasy Trip" (of which part came out in 1980, but which wasn't complete until '81), and SPI's "DragonQuest" (1st edition was 1980, I have 2nd edition (1982)).

After a few moves, I no longer own any of the older games I had.

Of the games I've played that might count as old-school, I suppose you might count Star Frontiers, AD&D 2nd, Gamma World (Though I apparently played the 4th edition, so it's the most recent of these), and the original Traveller (Which I didn't actually ever play, but I did own).

My father sent me his original copy of AD&D. That's the oldest old-school game I own.

Probably EMPIRE OF THE PETAL THRONE though what I now own are reprints rather than originals.

I still have a copy of SUPERHERO 2044 somewhere...

I still have my beat-up copy of Blue Book D&D. (I never had the rest of the box set, though.)

Well my wife owns a copy of a 1985 box set of Runequest so that would probably be the oldest old school game on my shelf.

For a long time it was probably Fighting Fantasy The Warlock of Firetop Mountain from 1982.

But not anymore. I gave it away to a nephew along with a full sett of polyhedral dice. Once has to infect the younger generation to keep the hobby going.
