Default Dropped Items in Unsearchable Rooms

How do you handle dropped items in an unsearchable room? For example foot gear in the mud room. I am assuming that the room is now searchable, but only the dropped items are found.

You do not have to search to pick up dropped Items, it is a separate process which costs one Move. If you do use a Move to search, you can also pick up dropped Items as well as anything else you find because of the search without having to expend another Move. So, Rooms which can't be searched have no effect on your ability to pick up dropped Items.

Exception: If your search finds a monster, you don’t get the dropped Items unless you kill the monster and take its own treasures.
