Default Weight of the compass, possible error?

I have been checking the gear in DFRP (adventurers) and I noticed the compass’ weight is FIVE pounds. I am wondering if that’s an error… Because that is heavier than a broadsword (almost two times heavier).

Thanks!

A primitive compass is pretty inconvenient, but in DF you can pretty much decide how good you want things to be.

A medieval-ish compass is a tabletop device, not a pocket device. Earlier compasses needed a bowl of water so I suppose everyone felt it was a great improvement.

You could easily make a modern-style compass available, a marvel of gnomish engineering from GnomeCo at the low low low markup of +8 CF. No word on if it has unusual usage conditions...

Thank you both!

In what book do I find the "GnomeCo" write-up?

I have the impression DF is set on TL3-TL4.

There is a 1-pound TL3 compass (the Chinese compass). When you make a GnomeCo item, is it like making it "High TL"?

See Advanced Compasses (Dungeon Fantasy Magic Items 2, p. 21).

Thank you Kromm!

I did not expect to find advanced “mundane” tools in a book of "magic items", this and the other contributions gave me a better perspective in DFRP.

I appreciate it.
