Re: New body armor options for soldiers
If the number of hit locations is sufficient large, yes; most of the variance can be handled through HT rolls. In particular, penetration is really not very random.

Just grab the hit location tables from Phoenix Command :). It had fixed penetration too. Wound allocation is a bear and takes forever though, fair warning. And they only covered humans, not various animals, much less fantastic beasts...

Re: New body armor options for soldiers
I'm aware of PCCS, though what I actually have is their prior productions -- Small Arms Spectrum and Rhand (Rhand covers melee, and is kinda broken and nonworking; Spectrum is merely grossly overcomplicated, even in comparison to PCCS).

Re: New body armor options for soldiers
Guys, I'm ressurecting this post because I'm due to run an early 2000's campaign centered in SOF operations in Afghanistan (Operation Anaconda and early CIA operations, mostly).
Reading Osprey books for some background, I found some different types of body armor, like SPEAR Body Armor or CIRAS. Looking some more in the internet I've found more types, as Supreme SPV-R. I know for a give that SPEAR/BALCS and later RBA are pretty similar. So, how do I classificate these early body armors in GURPS? As Fragmentation Vest (TL8)? Or, as Plate Carriers, considering CIRAS and SPEAR ? Thanks for any input. |

Re: New body armor options for soldiers
Just thought I would share some 2013 body armor tech:
DKX has some level 3 rifle plates that weight 2.9lbs and are buoyant. They're made from HDPE (Dyneema). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKbGy4AgzXM Oh, and if anyone has some PCs that need armor on the cheap for a modern game, they can get Steel level 3 Rifle Plate that weighs around 8lbs and only cost about $85. You can buy a cheap plate carrier for <$100 too. Last edited by Hugin; 08-19-2013 at 06:35 PM. |
