Default Doing the Limbo

From my read of Heaven/Hell, Limbo seems pretty blah.

Staying there does not seem fraught with any difficuties, except a perchance for the creation of very smart mice.

Granted, coming back to the exact same spot is difficult if you have a VERY patient demon/angel who is willing to wait for you, but that is not so rough a problem, particularly if you are sufficiently small and furry to escape notice (though you probably will make a small amount of Disturbance)

What variants would you suggest to make a trip to Limbo seem less like the most boring vacation in the world and more like something to be avoided if at all possible?

blah just finished an hour ago, rolling out the rolls for a Demonic Familiar who died last session he'll stay in Tauma for 847 days (I added all the check digits up)

it took another few rolls till it got to a total of 1708 days till he returns to earth (he got an infernal intervention which gave him allt he essence he needed, though his masters probaly forgotten him)

Needless to say the Imp is likely going to spend that time slowly CURSING the people who killed him learning new lessons on spite and cruelty every day and resenting the master who couldnt bother to send essence (figuring he was soul killed after 2 years no reply, naturally)

I think as is , its a place I would NOT want my PC to go to, unless he was going into retirement and was giong there voluntarily for meditational purposes.

but if you WANT you can of course, make those in limbo risk forces, like ethereals do.

Though personally, I like the idea of limbo being a place some people deliberately go into, not simply to hide, but to acquire bizzare insights.

Oh sorry if htis comes close to threadjacking but threads similar enough to a question I was wanting to ask I cant resist, since I seem to have exceeded by quota for new threads this month, lol.

With limbo as is, Can Essence be sent to someone in limbo, or recieved BEFORE Recover from trauma...

primordial clay says its turns into essence when you go into limbo.

I personally like the thought of there being some risk, otherwise why wouldn't someone go there deliberately when things start getting hairy? Like during the brief IN game I was running, the guys weren't too worried about causing problems on earth because all they would have to do is go to Limbo for a few years, long enough for everyone, including their archs, to forget.

I was thinking maybe some big creepy crawlies who feed on Forces, specific Forces to make them a bit scarier.

Maybe there is something there that can screw with the Celestials who are stuck there. If they fail a Will Roll they get a random Discord...

Stuff like that

The color text seems to suggest that's a possibility for long-term inmates of Limbo anyway; that something cracks or reforms under the pressure of the ultimate sensory deprivation experience. Adding a game mechanic to reflect that makes perfect sense to me.

Or a clever enemy who killed you by tossing you in front of a big rig on the freeway. Small and furry isn't going to be good survival strategy for a return there either, although a bird might be able to get airborne in time.

It's funny; I've been thinking about how to do the same for Heaven.

Etymologically Limbo is the edge of Hell. So maybe you could conceptualize it as, I don't know, what the moon is to the Corporeal Plane. Although I guess the moon is a pretty boring place to be very long as well. Or maybe it's Qlippothic, as in, what could have been but ain't, metaphorical unbaptised infants. Float around and chat with your Tattered Symphony and INverse selves while you wait to return to your respective Symphonies.

I think mostly it's hellishly boring. You're stuck somewhere, with no one for company, and no way of knowing when you get back. Sure, it's a safe place, but so is burrowing down 40 feet into the earth and breathing through a straw for the next forty years. I don't see a PC doing that.

I can see a PC Willingly doing that, if hes a follower of Either Yves, or litheroy and wants to acquire self knowledge.

That was my thought. If you want to represent it mechanically, I'd say consider the possibility that you can go insane in Limbo. I forget the exact mechanics on leaving Limbo, but every time you TRY to hold onto Essence and fail, you might have to roll against something like Will - (Essence Lost/5) or else gain a level of Ethereal or Celestial discord…

I dont have any problems with the basic way limbo works in concept, and dont think any penalty but time is really needed.

But I DO Think it requires WAY WAY WAY too many rolls to get out of limbo.

Not sure how stremalined things can get but... PCs Hopefully will never have tow orry about getting out ENTIRELY on their own.
