Default Bovine Intervention? ( Cowthulhu )

On the Bovine Intervention card, after the cowthulhu wipes out monster number one, the text says that no treasure is received unless the other monster(s) in combat are defeated.

the question one night was: if there are no other monsters in that combat, do i get the treasure?

i assume the answer is no, because the munchkin did no defeating.

am i on the right track here?

The answer is yes. There's an implied "if any" in the text of the card, which is long enough that clarifying it would probably have squeezed out more of the art.

And to add to that, the definition of "defeating" is removing the Monsters from combat, whether by killing them or using a special card or ability. If that card or ability gives you Treasure, then it's only if all the other Monsters are defeated as well. Killing a Monster is a specific form of defeating where you actually get Levels and Treasure.

What if Bovine Intervention is played by another player - does that make any difference? The player whose turn it is still gets the treasure for the single "intervened" monster?
